La scorsa settimana Il modulo di analisi di bilancio ISTAO ha compiuto 15 anni!
Era il 1997 quando Ida Simonella tutor del corso di master dell’ISTAO di Ancona chiese a me ed a Erminio Copparo “qualcosa di diverso” nel campo dell’analisi di bilancio. La loro necessità era superare le “crisi di rigetto” che una materia tanto tecnica provocava spesso negli allievi provenienti da percorsi di studi non finanziari, necessità ancora più pressante se si pensa al fatto che analizzare un bilancio era, ed è, uno dei compiti più frequenti di qualunque allievo prima, e qualunque manager poi. Io ed Erminio ci mettemmo a tavolino ed in circa 15 giorni creammo la prima edizione del modulo di analisi di bilancio. Eravamo pieni di entusiasmo e molto motivati, soprattutto ci era chiarissimo che per creare qualcosa di efficace avremmo dovuto utilizzare le tecniche di visualizzazione che Controller Akademie Italia, ed il suo patron Elmar Vareschi, ci avevano proposto e che ci appassionavano.

Un altro punto che ponemmo alla base dell’esperienza fu il fatto che doveva essere “vera”, il più possibile lontana dalla didattica per sé e dalla simulazione. Per questo scegliemmo di far lavorare gli allievi sui bilanci veri di due belle aziende locali, e soprattutto ponemmo un punto di tensione alla fine del percorso: gli allievi avrebbero presentato i risultati delle loro analisi ad ospiti esterni che avessero un sincero interesse riguardo alla performance delle due aziende. La prima edizione iniziò come una avventura, noi stessi temevamo che l’obiettivo fosse troppo sfidante per i partecipanti. Fu un grande successo invece, e soprattutto i partecipanti che non avevano una partecipazione tecnica sull’argomento ci restituirono feedback a volte entusiasti a volte commossi: loro stessi non potevano credere di riuscire ad utilizzare quegli strumenti che avevano sempre temuto, dopo soli 4 giorni e ad un livello professionale.
Da allora il modulo è stato migliorato edizione dopo edizione, è uscito dalle porte dell’ISTAO e l’abbiamo portato ad aziende, associazioni industriali, banche… Ne sono state sviluppate 4 versioni differenti nella durata (da 1 a 4 giorni), e persino una versione in inglese che ha avuto anch’essa riscontri sorprendenti.
Oggi il modulo rimane un po’ la nostra “formula 1” della formazione, un mondo dove la performance didattica è portata all’estremo e dove testiamo gran parte delle novità. Negli anni i contenuti tecnici dell’analisi di bilancio sono stati arricchiti ed aggiornati, ma è

sul fronte delle tecniche di lavoro di gruppo che sentiamo di aver fatto i progressi più spettacolari. Il fatto che i team debbano arrivare a produrre i risultati analitici in autonomia , senza che noi trainer li influenziamo, era ed è rimasta una costante, ma oggi questo si ottiene con l’utilizzo di una decina di diverse tecniche di lavoro di gruppo, tutte molto efficaci. L’incontro felice dello spirito di innovazione e di team che da sempre pervade l’ISTAO, le giuste tecniche e soprattutto la passione e la responsabilità degli allievi hanno dato vita ad una esperienza coinvolgente per tutti, partecipanti e trainer, ma soprattutto molto divertente…
Sono passati 15 anni e ci divertiamo ancora moltissimo !

Last week the ISTAO financial statement analysis module turned 15 years old!
It was 1997 when Ida Simonella, tutor of the ISTAO MBA asked me and Erminio Copparo “something different” in financial statement analysis field. Their primary need was to overcome the “crisis of rejection” caused by such a technical topic in trainees with a non financial background. A need appearing even more urgent thinking that analyzing a financial statement is a typical task for any trainee first, and any company executive after.
Erminio and I sat at the table and in some 15 days we created the first edition of the financial statement analysis module. We were enthusiast and very motivated, above all it was very clear to us that to create something really effective we would have to use the visualization techniques that Contoller Akedemie Italy, and its founder Elmar Vareschi, proposed us and about which we were passionate.
Another cornerstone we put on this experience was the fact that it should have been “true”, as far as possible from teaching for itself or simulation. Therefore we decided to let trainees work on true financial statements of two beautiful local companies and, more important, we placed a tension point at the end of the route: trainees would have been asked to present their findings to external guests, sincerely interested on the performances of the two companies.
The first edition began as an adventure, we were the first to have doubts: the goal was too challenging for the young participants? And instead it was a great success, especially some participants without a specific financial background gave us touching feedbacks, some of them were delighted: they simply couldn’t believe to be able to properly manage all those scaring financial tools, after just 4 days, and at a professional level.
Since then the module has been improved edition after edition, it crossed ISTAO gates and we brought it to companies, industry associations, banks… Four versions have been developed different in their duration (from 1 to 4 days), and we even produced an English version that performed surprisingly well.
Today the module remains a sort of “Formula 1” of teaching, a world where didactic performance is pushed to its extreme limits and where we test the main part of innovations. Across years technical contents of financial statement analysis have been enriched ad updated, but is on the field of team working that we feel we had the most outstanding progresses. The fact that participants must produce analytic results in autonomy, without influences from trainers, was and still is a constant, but today we achieve this target by mean of a dozen of different team working techniques, all very engaging and therefore effective.
The blessed matching among the innovation and team spirit that always inspired ISTAO, the right techniques and passion and responsibility of participants, originated a dramatically involving experience, for trainees and trainers, but also and perhaps more important genuine fun…
15 years have passed and we are still having great fun !
