Ogni tanto capita di desiderare tanto un prodotto che non c’è… Quasi di inventarlo. Lo vedi, hai chiare tutte le cose che vorresti farci, ma in giro non c’è. Quando poi qualcuno lo realizza, bèh quel giorno è memorabile. Per questo non dimenticherò mai il momento in cui ieri un e-mail mi ha avvisato del lancio della prima versione di Vizable, la prima vera app di analisi visiva dei dati per un dispositivo mobile… So che molti di voi non si sentiranno la vita cambiata, ma per tutti quelli che hanno bisogno di analizzare dati, vorrebbero farlo attraverso grafici interattivi e soprattutto in mobilità è veramente una rivoluzione. Il salto l’ha fatto quel team di geniali visionari di Tableau Software che da anni ci offrono appunto Tableau, per me il migliore software di analisi visiva e  business intelligence e reporting sulla piazza. E l’anno fatto a modo loro: con una app per iPad semplicissima, che si può collegare a fogli Excel  (ma anche .csv) ovunque essi si trovino: il vostro dispositivo, un cloud etc. Vizable vi offre la possibilità di analizzare i vostri dati attraverso un grafico a barre orizzontali, oppure una linea del tempo. L’esperienza dell’utente è altamente interattiva, letteralmente “si gioca” con tutte le dimensioni e misure presenti nel vostro foglio dati, filtrando, ordinando, applicando dei calcoli (media, massimo, minimo…). Il tutto nello stile Tableau e cioè in modo semplice, visivamente corretto, potente e molto performante.

La visione della compagnia di Seattle è chiara: portare l’analisi visiva dei dati a tutti coloro che ne hanno bisogno, anche se non hanno competenze di progettazione di grafici report e dashboard, ma soprattutto portarla  ovunque l’azione si svolga, su un tablet. Ed il video promozionale è molto ispiratore da questo punto di vista.

La app è ancora semplice, quasi appena abbozzata ma nel sito di Vizable c’è già una piccola community molto attiva con suggerimenti per possibili evoluzioni. Sono stato tra i primi quindici clienti in Italia di
Tableau Software quasi dieci anni fa, ed da allora ho visti realizzare cose stupende e a volte addirittura inimmaginabili sulla loro piattaforma Tableau (una per tutte Tableau Public), sono sicuro che Vizable diventerà sempre più ricco e, sono pronto a scommettere, manterrà la sua semplicità d’uso.

Personalmente non vedo l’ora di iniziare a sviluppare progetti con Vizable, per le mie aziende clienti ma anche e soprattutto per aiutare tutte le persone che hanno bisogno di “vedere” i propri dati… Insomma non ci sono più scuse: da adesso in poi dovunque vi troviate passare da un foglio di calcolo con 20.000 righe ad un bel grafico che vi permetta di trovarci un senso sarà velocissimo facile e divertente!

Sometimes it happens to desire so badly a product that doesn’t exist… You almost invent it, you can see it and all the things you would like to do with it are clear in your mind, but you can’t find it on the shelf. That’s why I will never forget the moment when yesterday an e-mail announced the first release of Vizable, the very first app for visual data analysis on a mobile device… I know that many of you will not feel a so radical change in their lives, but for those who need to analyze data, and would like to do it through interactive charts, and most of all with their mobile device, it’s a true revolution!

The breakthrough comes from the same team of ingenious visionaries at Tableau Software that from many years are giving us Tableau, for me the best software for visual analysis, business intelligence and reporting on the market. And they did it their own way: an iPad app very simple, able to connect to Excel sheets (but also .csv) wherever they are located: your device, a cloud etc. Vizable enable you to analyze your data by mean of an horizontal bar chart or a timeline. The user experience is highly interactive, one can literally play whit all the dimensions and measures of the data sheet, filtering, sorting, applying useful calculations (average, max, min…). And everything is Tableau-style that is simple, visually correct, powerful and highly performing. The vision of Seattle company is clear: to bring visual data analysis to all who need it, even if they don’t have report and dashboard design skills, and most off all bring it wherever the action is, on a tablet. The video trailer is very inspiring about that.

The app is very basic yet, almost barely sketched but on the Vizable webisite there is already a small community very active on suggestions for possible evolutions. I’ve been among the first 15 Tableau customers in Italy, almost ten years ago, and since then I’ve seen them realizing amazing things on their Talbleau platform , sometimes truly unthinkable (one for all Tableau Public), and I’m sure that Vizable will get richer and more performing, and I’m even ready to bet that it will keep its simplicity for the user.

Personally I can’t wait to start developing projects on Vizable, for my client companies but also and particularly to help all those who need to “see” their data… No excuses: from now, on wherever you will be, to go from a 20.000 rows spreadsheet to a beautiful chart allowing you to make a sense out of it will be a fast, easy and funny experience!
